Liam Tancock sets new record, bags Gold in Swimming

Fran Halsall claimed England's first gold medal, while Liam Tancock earned them the second gold with a Games record at the XIX Commonwealth Games 2010 Delhi at Dr S.P. Mukherjee Acquatics Complex yesterday.
  
Day two of Swimming saw England bag two gold and two silver, while Australia bagged 1-5-3.
  
South Africa and Scotland clinched one gold each.
  
Halsall won the gold with 26.24 seconds, ahead of Australian world champion Marieke Guehrer (26.27) in the women's 50m butterfly. Australia also bagged the bronze through Emily Seebohm (26.29).
  
Liam Tancock then cruised to men's 50m backstroke gold in a Games record time of 24.62, a performance that cleared his 2006 standard of 24.84.
  
Australia's Hayden Stoeckel placed second in 25.08, while teammate Ashley Delaney claimed third in 25.21.
  
"It felt pretty good but it didn't feel amazing. I gave it my best, though, and stroked on through to the win," Tancock said.
  
Robbie Renwick won a first gold medal for Scotland in the last final of the day, the men's 200m freestyle with a timing of 1:47.88.
  
Australia again won the silver-bronze through Kenrick Monk (1:47.90) and Thomas Fraser-Holmes (1:48.22) respectively.
  
Success for Australia came with a one-two in the women's 50m breaststroke final with Leiston Pickett winning in 30.84 ahead of Leisel Jones in 31.10, with Haywood of England a further seven hundredths of a second behind.

Indian hope Virdhawal Khade made the final by with 24.38 in a second effort that earned him a sixth place in the semis and a place in the final.
