In the Para-sport 50m freestyle S9, Natalie Du Toit of South AFrica, who competed at the Beijing Olympics alongside able-bodied swimmers in the 10km open water event, got her gold medal hat-trick yesterday in a Games record time of 29.17 seconds, adding to her victories in the event at the Manchester Games in 2002 and at Melbourne in 2006.
Australian Annabelle Williams (29.42) sealed the silver, while Stephanie Millward of England took the bronze with a timing of 29.69.
It was also Du Toit's last race in that disabled class. “I knew it was my last race as a 50m freestyle (S9) swimmer and what a way to finish with a gold," she said.
After this victory, she has great chances of bagging golds in 100m freestyle to be held on Thursday and 100m butterfly on Saturday.
